A fundraiser was held on Saturday to benefit Women’s & Children’s First, an organization that provides resources for victims of domestic violence and their children.

NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – A collection of donations took place on Saturday for the benefit of Women and children firstan organization in Arkansas that provides resources to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault, and their children.

Saturday’s event was a joint effort of McCain Mall and Restaurant and brasserie BJ’s as the two worked together to provide the fundraiser, which ran from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The donation campaign was looking for different items such as:

  • laundry detergent pods
  • paper napkins
  • toilet paper
  • cleaning supplies
  • oral hygiene products
  • liquid hand soap
  • household items

“We asked for the things we go through the most, i.e. detergent pods, liquid hand soap, toilet paper, paper towels, [and] even things like standard size pillows, cleaning supplies – just your basics to get through the day,” said Megan McBroome, Community Outreach and Marketing Associate for Women’s & Children’s First.

As an organization, Women’s & Children’s First strives to provide resources to victims and their children, helping them navigate their way to a free and independent life away from domestic violence.

“Women’s & Children’s First, we are a refuge from domestic violence, as well as a refuge from sexual abuse. BJ’s Brewhouse as well as McCain Mall reached out to us because they wanted to organize a fundraiser for us,” McBroome said.

The organization provides services such as crisis intervention, safe shelter, support services, and social and legal advocacy.

For those unable to come out on Saturday, McBroome said there are still opportunities to donate.

“For the next 2 weeks, BJ’s [Brewhouse] will actually have a [donation] box on their two locations, so North Little Rock and Little Rock as well. If you would like to donate, you are more than welcome. You can also go to our website and you can donate there as well,” she said.
