Local organization honors members of law enforcement
RAPID CITY, SD — The Rushmore Noon Optimist Club held a special ceremony Wednesday for law enforcement and the children they helped daily, with the group part of the area helping local children for decades.
And today’s ‘Respect for Law’ ceremony honored the work of two law enforcement officers – and two children they had the most positive impact on – for the relationships they have established with the students of the schools where they work.
“When you’re a police officer on the street, you don’t often see the results of your work,” said school resource officer Garrett Loen. “While at school, I see these kids every day. So if I end up working with a kid, I can follow them and continue to work with them to try to help them improve their life and can -be to improve what is happening around them.
The “Respect For Law” ceremony has been part of the club for twenty years.
