By Benjamin Flowers: The Belize Bureau of Standards (BBS) is preparing to sign a formal agreement with the Association for Standards and Certification (ANCE), to receive capacity building and training that will better prepare the BBS for a regional project.

The deal is expected to be signed on July 21 at the Best Western Belize Biltmore Plaza.

The BBS explained this week that Belize, as a CARICOM member state, has been selected to participate in a voluntary Energy Efficiency Labeling (EELS) pilot program for refrigerators, air conditioners and lighting.

The BBS also noted that ANCE is a trusted organization in countries such as the United States, Mexico, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Panama, Colombia, Peru and Ecuador, which has prompted the office to contact ANCE last year for help.

“The main objective of the cooperation agreement is the capacity building of personnel to carry out conformity assessment of energy efficient appliances in addition to other key areas of support and is an essential part of the project requirement for ensure the effective implementation of the program,” the BBS said. said.

The BBS added that ANCE ANCE has been a leader in standardization and conformity assessment activities over the past 20 years, adding value to quality through safety, health, performance and the best use of natural resources, with standardization solutions, laboratory inspections and tests. , calibration, proficiency testing and certification, as the basis for technological development and innovation in the region, making its support crucial for the country’s performance in EELS.
