Well-being at work programme: an essential pillar of organizational support
From the days when employees were considered useless and terms like “revolving doors” and “hire and fire” were the rounds, the world of HR has come a long way. Today’s HR has evolved into a technology-driven ecosystem where top talent is sought, hired and trained. Organizations today are focused on creating an environment where employees can contribute meaningfully and become the best versions of themselves.
As HR has shifted from managing people to managing people, the focus on holistic wellness has shifted from “nice to have” to “must have”.
According to the World Health Organization, more than half of the world’s population currently works and 15% of adults of working age live with a mental disorder. Without effective support, mental disorders and other mental health issues can affect a person’s confidence and identity at work, as well as their ability to work productively. Twelve billion working days are lost each year due to depression and anxiety. Therefore, a focus on employee well-being is undoubtedly essential – something that organizations cannot afford to ignore!
At Tech Mahindra, in 2017, we actively started conversations around the need for wellness in the workplace. We made a conscious decision to move the needle from from well-being in business to well-being before business. This idea encompassed not only the physical well-being, but also the mental, emotional and financial well-being of associates. Accordingly, new offers to implement them have been carefully prepared.
During the pandemic, our belief in “Wellness before business” was put to the test, and we asked all our managers to first ensure the well-being and safety of employees and then maintaining business continuity for customers and the partner ecosystem.
#WellnessFirst initiatives for a happier, healthier and more productive workforce
We launched our “Wealth of Wellness” (WoW) program to provide preventative, personalized and proactive holistic well-being across the 8 dimensions of well-being – physical, emotional, financial, professional, intellectual, social, spiritual and environmental. Additionally, we launched Health app, an AI and ML-based application to enable data-driven digital diagnostics that helped generate real-time reports. The solution seamlessly connected healthcare providers to employees while tracking and monitoring their overall wellbeing. We have also worked with leading hospitals to deploy vaccination campaigns to protect associates and their dependent family members. We were also among the first in the industry to appoint a “Wellness Manager”to institutionalize holistic wellness for all associates and to ensure access to medicines, hospitals and other medical supplies.

We sincerely believe that organizations that focus on employee well-being and happiness are more productive. According to Harvard Business Review, a positive environment leads to significant benefits for employers, employees and the bottom line.
As we move forward, it is critical that organizations as well as governments around the world recognize that with Wealth Wealth, businesses around the world can perform better and increase their productive capacity, which can at in turn stimulate the economy.
